#896: Kids

October 17th, 2020

I had a baby, again!

We just had our second kid, so I will be taking a few weeks of paternity leave from the comics.

Back in February we had no idea what was coming with regards to COVID, and thinking about caring for a baby during a pandemic has been stressful. But now that he's here it's been really nice to have something so positive and joyful in life to distract from the outside chaos.

During this time I'm going to try to finally update the archive page to include more tags, and add some more commentary posts to my Patreon.

As always, thank you all so much for your support over all these years, I really appreciate it.

Website Update!

I don't need to tell you this year has been tough.

I made a resolution after COVID began that I would finally give my site a much needed update. Having near zero coding knowledge it has been a bit of a challenge but I feel that I've mostly succeeded.

I think this is my 3rd major website update since 2006, so let's just call this website 3.0. In addition to simplifying the look and making it more mobile-friendly, I've also added a few other features.

  • The archive is now searchable, and can be ordered in ascending or descending order. I have also added searchable content and character tags to each comic (I am currently halfway finished, but eventually all the comics will be tagged properly). You can view the character tags by mousing over a row in the archive.
  • I have added keyboard shortcuts for navigation. When viewing a comic, press "a" for previous comic, "s" for next comic, and "r" for random comic.
  • I have added shortcuts below each page to my official social media posts for that specific comic. Links to my commentary on Patreon will also be linked there with an "author commentary" button. My Patrons will know that I add commentary to each new comic I create, and I am slowly creating commentary for the older comics, starting from #1 and moving up (I am currently up to #96).

Many of you have been asking about the mobile app. I'm still trying to come up with a solution. Unfortunately the friend who created the app is no longer able to proceed with updating it, and I have zero experience in building apps. I'm really sorry to anyone affected by this, and I will keep you updated.

There are sure to be some issues and bugs initially. Let me know if you spot any bugs or missing comics, and I will fix them as soon as possible.

Dark Legacy Comics is on Patreon!

I have officially started a DLC Patreon page. For those of you that don't know, Patreon is a membership platform that provides tools for creators to run a subscription content service. Basically, for paying a monthly fee, you can gain access to additional Dark Legacy Comics content. For those of you that have no interest in giving me money, don't worry, I will continue to post free comics weekly, you can stop reading now.

I've always wanted to offer more with DLC than just a weekly comic, and hopefully this can help make it happen. Currently there is only one tier ($1 a month), just to gauge how much interest there is in this idea. This tier includes access to my Patreon activity stream which will include my weekly comic posts with my added commentary. I'm going to be active on the posts, so you can also join in on the conversation with me, ask questions, etc.

My goal for the future is to offer more rewards for patrons. One idea may be to have patrons vote on their favorite old comic each week, and I will redraw the comic. Or perhaps do a fan written comic like the one I did on Facebook a few years back. I'd love to hear your ideas.

Thanks again for all your support, and hopefully we can keep Dark Legacy Comics going for another 10 years!

Check out the Patreon page here.
