One Thousand: The End for Now

I know some of you have been dreading this announcement for a while, especially with the millennial issue approaching, but comic #1000 is going to be the last Dark Legacy Comics. At least for a while.

One thousand comics. Holy moly. I’ve been drawing this comic by myself, almost every Sunday, for 20 years. That’s a loooong time. Some of you weren’t alive when I started. That’s weird to think about. I made a similar joke nearly 500 comics ago, so you can only imagine how I feel now.

I still enjoy making the comic and I love the community, which is what drove me to keep drawing, but I think it’s time I focused on drawing more for myself, and my own passions.

I’m not going to stop making weekly comics, I just want to spend that energy on something new that’s fully mine, and not tied to another IP. It will still be my sense of humor, it will still be silly, weird at times, but rather than weekly standalone comics, it will be an original serialized story, told weekly.

Keller and Funk is a comic idea I’ve had cooking for a while now, it’s something I’ve been reading to my kids at bedtime as I’ve worked on it. I’d like to focus on that for a while. I will be pivoting to posting that comic every Sunday, at least for the time being. If you're interested in this new comic and my process of making it, check out my Keller and Funk Patreon. Like with Dark Legacy Comics, I will be posting weekly commentary there, and Patrons will see new comics a week early.

I will however continue posting Dark Legacy content on Patreon. This will include commentary on old comics (Throwbacks) every Wednesday. Bonus panels on old comics every Friday. On Sundays, since I won’t have new comics to make commentary and Bonus Panels for, I will be adding an additional weekly throwback commentary and a Bonus Panel on an old comic (starting from #902 and working my way down).

I’m also not completely closing the book on DLC. I may still decide to add comics if an idea strikes me down the line. We’ll see.

New Pateron Prices and Posting Schedule

*If you are already a paid member, these changes won't affect you unless you change your subscription in the future.

I've been on Patreon for coming on 8 years now, and over those years my library has grown to over 600 posts containing commentaries, bonus panels, guild chats, behind-the-scenes and making-of posts. Over the 8 years, my intro price of $1 a month hasn't changed. However with inflation and cost-of-living increases I need to make some adjustments to pricing. However, I will be committing to increasing my weekly posting to a consistent regular schedule moving forward (see more about my new posting schedule below).

These changes will not go into effect until March 1st. That means, if you decide to increase your membership between now and March 1st, you will be grandfathered in to the current (lower) price structure. Again, starting March 1st, after the new changes have gone into effect, any new members or subscription changes will have to pay the updated prices.

Now before we get into the new prices, I also want to mention that I will be adding a new base tier: "DLC Fan". This tier will be below the current lowest tier, "DLC Guild Member" and it will have access only to my weekly Sunday comic post with commentary (no throwback, Guild Chat, or behind-the scenes, posts etc).

Below will be the new price and benefit structure. I will also be committing to making four scheduled posts a week:

$2 per month - DLC Fan

Weekly Comic with Commentary (every Sunday)

$5 per month - DLC Guild Member

All benefits above
Weekly Throwback or Guild Chat etc posts (every Wednesday)

$10 per month - DLC Raider

All benefits above
Two weekly Bonus Panel posts (every Sunday & Friday)

$15 per month - DLC Officer

All benefits above
For now this is still going to be purely an extra support tier, with no added benefits, for Patrons that want to give more, but I may add benefits in the future.

Introducing... Bonus Panels!

Each new comic I release will now have a bonus panel that can be accessed exclusively with the DLC Raider tier on my Patreon page. Bonus Panels are a way for me to include additional jokes or commentary for each new comic I release.

Each comic with a corresponding Bonus Panel post will have a button under the comic on the website linking to the post on my Patreon page.

I have also added Bonus Panel icons to the archive (in addition to the existing guild chat and commentary icons), so you can easily see which comics have additional content.

New Gigz Healer Design in the Store!

We all know Gigz is the most dependable healer in town. She'll be sure to top you off right after she beats you near to death. Inspired by my first comic, this new design features the best healer in town (just don't ask how the blood got on her staff).

This design is available on T-shirts for kids and adults, phone cases, mugs, and more!

I've made some long needed updates to the Dark Legacy Comics Store, and will be working on more designs in the future. If you have any requests for specific designs, don't hesitate to send me an email.

Dark Legacy Comics is on Patreon!

I have officially started a DLC Patreon page. For those of you that don't know, Patreon is a membership platform that provides tools for creators to run a subscription content service. Basically, for paying a monthly fee, you can gain access to additional Dark Legacy Comics content. For those of you that have no interest in giving me money, don't worry, I will continue to post free comics weekly, you can stop reading now.

I've always wanted to offer more with DLC than just a weekly comic, and hopefully this can help make it happen. Currently there is only one tier ($1 a month), just to gauge how much interest there is in this idea. This tier includes access to my Patreon activity stream which will include my weekly comic posts with my added commentary. I'm going to be active on the posts, so you can also join in on the conversation with me, ask questions, etc.

My goal for the future is to offer more rewards for patrons. One idea may be to have patrons vote on their favorite old comic each week, and I will redraw the comic. Or perhaps do a fan written comic like the one I did on Facebook a few years back. I'd love to hear your ideas.
